BEACHES

Banna Beach a Blue Flag beach is renowned as one of the finest sandy and safe beaches in Ireland, stretching from the pleasant village of Ballyheigue on the North to the ancient ruins of Barrow Castle backed by miles of sheltered sand hills, this magnificent stretch of the Atlantic is unparalleled for surfing and swimming.

ENTERTAINMENT

Banna Beach Hotel with its traditional old Irish Pub and Music Bar provide live nightly entertainment, restaurant, fast food outlet, grocery and sweet shop. For the children – Pirate Pete’s Adventure World. Also Banna Beach Leisure Club run both Easter and Summer Camps. For the adults there is a well-equipped Gym and a 20m Swimming Pool. Also available here are an Astro Turf Pitch and Basketball Court.

WATER SPORTS

Kingdom Surf run surf lessons on Banna Beach during the summer months for both Adults and Children.

GOLF

Ardfert and Ballyheigue host nine hole golf courses, pitch and putt courses and crazy golf. Tralee Golf Links 18 hole course situated in Barrow is internationally renowned for its Arnold Palmer design.

PLACES OF INTEREST

  • Sir Roger Casement Memorial is located 200 metres from Banna Beachside Cottages. It was here the great patriot landed on April 1916 in an ill-fated attempt to provide arms for the Easter Rising.
  • Ardfert Cathedral dates back to the eleventh century and is steeped in ancient history.
  • Fenit a fishing village located 9 km from Banna Beachside Cottages has a beautiful statue of St. Brendan the navigator overlooking Tralee Bay. It also has a modern Marina. From here Fishing Trips and Eco Tourism Trips can be arranged by appointment (Phone 0860881977). There are also some lovely walks around this area.
  • Tralee Town has something to suit all interests, Geraldine Experience and Museum, Steam Train and Windmill in Blennerville, Greyhound Racing, Shops and Restaurants.

Cathedral in Ardfert Village: Monastery founded by St. Brendan “the Navigator” in the 6th Century. There are 3 medieval churches an Ogham Stone and a number of early Christian and medieval grave slabs on the site today. Friary a half mile from the village on the Causeway Road – The Friars were invited here by Thomas Fitzmaurice about 1253, it was taken over as a barracks in 1584. The friars returned in 1613 and came and went as circumstances permitted until at least 1763. The church and transept chapel and tower are still standing today. www.opw.ie/en
