Cathedral in Ardfert Village: Monastery founded by St. Brendan “the Navigator” in the 6th Century. There are 3 medieval churches an Ogham Stone and a number of early Christian and medieval grave slabs on the site today. Friary a half mile from the village on the Causeway Road – The Friars were invited here by Thomas Fitzmaurice about 1253, it was taken over as a barracks in 1584.
